May 2017 – School of Architecture
This mixed-used project, Park Deck, is a mixed-used development that aims to address urban and architectural concerns that the city is currently dealing with.
This project considers the effects of sea level rise on the site and surroundings, reason why the building structure is elevated off the ground to prevent water from damaging the living units and take advantage of the sun and wind as a passive design strategy. The lack of parking in the city posses a problem for residents and visitors, and this issue is addressed by inserting programmatic parking on the first floors of the building. Walkability is a big part of the urban fabric of the city, and through the use of ramps and observation decks Park Deck aims to activate the views and spaces that South Florida has to offer.
